Operation Honor

Honor Flights fly veterans to Washington, D.C. to view memorials dedicated to remembering their service. Since 2005, Honor Flight Dayton has flown about 7,000 World War II, Korea War, and Vietnam War veterans from all services on about two commercial charter flights a year to visit the nation’s capital and other memorial sites. The trips are free and are typically funded by donations. The flights draw crowds to greet veterans at the Dayton International Airport as they depart and as they return. The next Honor Flight (on September 21st) – designated OPERATION HONOR – will depart from Wright-Patterson AFB aboard two C-17 Globemaster III aircraft and land at Andrews AFB.  Upon return to WPAFB, the veterans will be greeted by a crowd expected to number 3,000, as well as musical and patriotic performances by local bands (Last Call and Stranger), the Air Force Band of Flight, Ricky Lee, and Lee Greenwood.
