“India to Ohio: Building International Understanding & New Friendships”
Rotary has a robust Youth Exchange program and on June 8, we will hear from
our club’s exchange student, Diya Shah from Surat, India. Diya arrived in Dayton
in August 2025 and has lived with two host families in the Five Oaks
neighborhood during her stay- the families of Dayton Rotarians Jason Hillard and
Ann Charles Watts, and the former Mayor of Dayton Nan Whaley and her husband
Sam Braun.
She has been attending Stivers School for the Arts, where she has enjoyed
exploring her creative interests through print making, photography, and ceramics.
She has enjoyed getting to know her host families, exploring Dayton’s Five Rivers
MetroParks, and has been an excellent addition to our Rotary Club with her active
participation in much of our activities, including the bowling league, and
volunteering her time to clean up over 800 pounds of trash along the Great Miami
River.
Diya will remain in Dayton until Sunday, July 5; she is returning home one day
after celebrating on July 4, the 250th Anniversary of our great nation.
