“Peace Through the Rule of Law and Getting to Know One Another”
Judge Walter Rice having just retired from his career on the bench will be with us to talk about Peace Through the Rule of Law. We will also have the honor of presenting him with the Irv Bieser Peace Award. One of the founding pillars of our country was and continues to be adherence to the Rule of Law. Here, in the United States, we resolve our most serious disputes through new interpretations of settled law or through binding precedents established through the years, based upon earlier, yet similar cases decided. This is our alternative to resolving our differences through violence or attacking the Rule of Law, as is the case in so many countries of the world.
Yet I have concerns to share with you today, concerns that the Rule of Law is in danger, due to the growing disrespect in our country for seemingly all our institutions and rapidly evolving changes that deny more and more of our citizens the ability to access what is still the very dispute resolution mechanism ever devised. The good news is that it is not too late, that there are solutions that the public can achieve, and that one need not be an attorney or legal professional to utilize.
