Creation of the Aesthetic Vision of the Third Street Bridge
Bing Davis will discuss the development of the Third Street Bridge aesthetic design that reflects the rich cultural and ethnic history of the area, including Paul Lawrence Dunbar, the Wright Brothers, Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., and the symbolism of the Peace Bridge. An extensive public involvement effort led to a vision of the general elements to be included in the design. An aesthetic committee composed of project team members and community participants then developed the details including baas reliefs, information panels celebrating the history of the area, decorative symbols of peace that will be sand-blasted into the walks, and elegant decorative lighting.
