Youth & Peace in Action – Modeling Positive Peacebuilding for Communities

Rotary has nearly a 100-year history of being a voice for peace, and today, Peace and Conflict Resolution is one of Rotary’s seven areas of focus. Along with Rotary strategic partner the Institute for Economics & Peace, a framework known as the Eight Pillars as well as the notion of “positive peacebuilding” have been gaining momentum with clubs and districts around the world. In this inspiring presentation, preceding the International Day of Peace, Sept. 21st, we’ll hear about what’s been happening and what else District 6670 can do to make a difference!

Evolution of the Omega Community Development Corporation

Reverend Vanessa Oliver Ward is the President of the Omega Community Development Corporation (Omega CDC) and Pastor Emerita of the Omega Baptist Church. As President of the Omega CDC, she oversees the organization’s mission of providing services that help to develop and improve the lives of the youth, the families and the community of Northwest Dayton. Omega Community Development Corporation is a 501(c)(3) organization established by the Omega Baptist Church in 1997. Omega CDC is breaking the cycle of intergenerational poverty by catalyzing change in Northwest Dayton by focusing on education, economic stability, health and well-being and community engagement.  Omega CDC has collaborated with public, philanthropic and private funders to serve thousands of children and families over the last 25 years. We have expanded programs for children to include wrap-around services that address the needs of the whole family because we are serious about moving children and families from poverty to self-sufficiency.

Missions of the 88th Air Base Wing

Col. Christopher B. Meeker is commander of the 88th Air Base Wing, the host unit at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base. The wing operates the airfield, maintains all infrastructure and provides security, communications, medical, legal, personnel, finance, transportation, air traffic control, weather forecasting, public affairs, recreation and chaplain services for more than 100 associate units. Col. Meeker will speak about the missions of the wing, the latest updates on Wright-Patterson Air Force Base and share his vision for strengthening the base’s connection with the greater Dayton community.
